Dr. Joshua Cole, DC, CCSP

Dr. Joshua Cole’s interest in sports and fitness began at an early age on the soccer field and around the track. His love for sports was evident both as a participant and fan. In the classroom, his interest in science led him to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry at Liberty University.

Upon graduation, his decision to concentrate on his two great interests, sports and medicine, led him to enroll at New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) to become a chiropractic doctor. 

Hands-On Learning
As part of his chiropractic studies, Dr. Cole gained hands-on insight through a variety of internship settings that included a hospital, neighborhood clinic, Veteran's Administration Outpatient Clinic. Each assignment brought its own learning opportunities, challenges and rewards as he provided care and healing to patients suffering from ailments that included pregnancy-related issues, immobilizing injuries, chronic pain, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Dr. Cole also participated in sports club which provided specialized training in the management of sports injuries and included many opportunities for post-race work with athletes at large regional racing events.

Experience in Sports Medicine
Upon earning his Doctorate of Chiropractic from NYCC, Dr. Cole immediately joined the energetic chiropractic and physical therapy team at Haymarket Physical Therapy and Chiropractic (HPTC) in Gainesville, VA. At HPTC, Dr. Cole worked with patients ranging from professional athletes to office workers. Given its special focus on sports medicine, Dr. Cole was involved in opening the practice’s satellite clinic at the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center in Manassas, VA in 2011.

Dr. Cole is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) and has American Red Cross certification in CPR/AED and Standard First Aid. He has also completed continual development courses in FAST Stick, Nimmo, Diabetiology, Advanced Clinical Neurology, Women’s Health Care Issues, Sports Module 1 & 2, Health Promotion and Wellness, Clinical Pediatric Chiropractic Care, Graston Technique, Coding, Billing and Documentation, Ergonomics, Treating the Golfing Patient Population, and Myofascial Technique.

Dr. Cole puts his extensive knowledge in sports medicine to work serving as a Team Physician for several competitive area teams, including Jeremy Linn’s NCAP elite swim group, former Haymarket Senators baseball team, and Tae Kwon Do (Arlene Limas – Team Power Kix).

Virginia Soccer Health & Injury Advisor
In 2013, Dr. Cole was named the Soccer Health and Injury Advisor for the Virginia Soccer Association (VSA), an organization serving 3,500 athletes in Prince William County. As advisor, Dr. Cole reviews concussion testing options, manages a partnership with Prince William Hospital to provide first aid kits, and conducts seminars on injury prevention, and VSA coach training sessions. He also maintains the “Ask the Doc” section of the VSA website as a resource for parents of youth soccer players. 

Featured Speaker and Instructor
Dr. Cole has served as a featured speaker on topics, including injury prevention, proper stretching techniques to benefit the musculoskeletal system, and Tempromandibular Joint Dysfunction: Rehabilitation for the Dental Professional. Dr. Cole also provides special clinics at The Running Store in Gainesville.

Dr. Cole is an adjunct instructor at New York Chiropractic College and an Affiliated Clinical Instructor at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA working with the school’s Athletic Training Department. He is affiliated with the American Chiropractic Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.
 

Meet CLAIRE LONG, ATC

Claire Long is an Athletic Trainer (ATC) who brings experience and advanced knowledge in kinesiology and athletic training to her role at Cole Sports Chiropractic and Rehabilitation. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and a Masters Degree in Kinesiology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Claire has experience working with Division I athletes from a variety of sports including football, men’s and women’s cross country, and women's gymnastics.

Claire also has a background in physical therapy and has provided care in clinics to a variety of patients ranging from professional athletes to vestibular and stroke patients. Her physical therapy experience includes work at a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, where she provided daily care for patients in long and short term rehabilitation, maintenance rehabilitation, and strength training for assisted living residents. 

Claire excels at working with patients of all ages and fitness levels. She is highly proficient in patient evaluation, Bracing Taping, emergency care,  manual therapy, Hawkgrips, SIMs documentation, and interprofessional collaboration, At Cole Sports Chiropratic and Rehab, she works extensively with Dr. Cole to provide a holistic approach and optimal care for her patients. 

Claire Long is Board Certified, and is a member of the Great Lakes Athletic Training Association and the National Athletic Training Association. When not working with patients, Claire enjoys music (serving as a Handbell Choir Director for six years) and spending time exploring all that the Stafford area has to offer!
