Dr. Joshua Cole, DC, DACBSP

Dr. Joshua Cole’s interest in sports and fitness began at an early age on the soccer field and around the track. His love for sports was evident both as a participant and fan. In the classroom, his interest in science led him to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry at Liberty University.

Upon graduation, his decision to concentrate on his two great interests, sports, and medicine, led him to enroll at New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) to become a chiropractic doctor.

Hands-On Learning
As part of his chiropractic studies, Dr. Cole gained hands-on insight through a variety of internship settings that included a hospital, neighborhood clinic, Veteran's Administration Outpatient Clinic. Each assignment brought its own learning opportunities, challenges, and rewards as he provided care and healing to patients suffering from ailments that included pregnancy-related issues, immobilizing injuries, chronic pain, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Dr. Cole also participated in a sports club, which provided specialized training in the management of sports injuries and included many opportunities for post-race work with athletes at large regional racing events.

Experience in Sports Medicine
Upon earning his Doctorate of Chiropractic from NYCC, Dr. Cole immediately joined the energetic chiropractic and physical therapy team at Haymarket Physical Therapy and Chiropractic (HPTC) in Gainesville, VA. At HPTC, Dr. Cole worked with patients ranging from professional athletes to office workers. Given its special focus on sports medicine, Dr. Cole was involved in opening the practice’s satellite clinic at the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center in Manassas, VA in 2011.

Dr. Cole is a member of an elite group of chiropractors, having earned designation as a Diplomate American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (DACBSP).  To earn his DACBSP, Dr. Cole first achieved standing as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP). He then completed over 200 additional postgraduate classroom hours in sports medicine and successfully mastered an intense multi-station practical exam, completed a written project, worked over 100 practical experience hours (“field hours”), and passed the rigorous DACBSP written exam. In addition, Dr. Cole has American Red Cross certification in CPR/AED and Standard First Aid. He has also completed continual development courses in FAST Stick, Nimmo, Diabetology, Advanced Clinical Neurology, Women’s Health Care Issues, Sports Module 1 & 2, Health Promotion and Wellness, Clinical Pediatric Chiropractic Care, Graston Technique, Coding, Billing and Documentation, Ergonomics, Treating the Golfing Patient Population, and Myofascial Technique.

Dr. Cole puts his extensive sports medicine knowledge to work as a Team Physician for several competitive area teams, including Jeremy Linn’s NCAP elite swim group, former Haymarket Senators baseball team, and Tae Kwon Do (Arlene Limas – Team Power Kix). In July 2018, Dr. Cole traveled to Spokane, Washington to serve on the medical team for the Pan American Taekwondo Championship.
